Annapolis Autumn is a difficult book to classify, consisting as it does of essays, vignettes, and not a little polemic. It was written by a tenured civilian professor of English at the U.S. Naval Academy. This is the same Professor Fleming who triggered a furor in the Yard and elsewhere earlier this year by "outing" the fact that not everyone who is admitted to the academy has to meet the same admissions standards.
