History Devotee Underwrites Projects
Two Naval Institute historical projects have received a boost through the generosity of longtime member James Pritzker of Chicago. Under the auspices of his Tawani Foundation, Jim Pritzker, a retired colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard, sponsored the June issue of Naval History to allow the Naval Institute to publish expanded coverage of the Normandy Invasion in this 60th anniversary year. In 2003, Jim made a significant pledge that will strengthen the Naval Institute’s oral history program for three years.
Among his other philanthropic activities, Jim is the force behind the new state-of-the-art Pritzker Military Library in Chicago. This private research facility supports the study of military history and is dedicated to the philosophy that all citizens should be knowledgeable about the military and its role in society. The library offers live webcasts that enable registered users to watch and listen to guest speakers from anywhere in the world. For more information, visit pritzkermilitarylibrary.org.
