The independent, mobile Sea Base will answer the mail for the Navy for staging and access, but if medical support issues are not included in operational considerations, the concept will not withstand the bright light of reality once casualties start their entry across the quarterdecks.
The key to sustainment of combat operations always has been the logistical support of engaged forces. The currently evolving concept of standalone sea basing, however, provides little insight into the realities of supporting sick and injured personnel, much less for treating civilians and enemy forces injured during combat operations. Indeed, the validity of the concept will be critically tested on the arrival at the Sea Base of the first bloodied body. This ultimately could be the Achilles' heel of this futuristic littoral configuration.
