Old technology continues to help the defense when it comes to mine warfare. Mines continue to pose a significant threat to amphibious forces, and the defense presently is ahead. But the services have joined forces to address the issue—afloat and ashore—using existing and prototype systems. The task now is to persevere.
The objective of the two-phase Joint Countermine Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrations (JCM ACTD) is to assess emerging technologies' potential to provide a capability to transition countermine operations smoothly from sea to land. The two demonstrations have been integrated into large-scale amphibious Joint Task Force Exercises (JTFEXs) employing 13 prototypes from Advanced Technology Demonstrations (ATDs) and developmental acquisition systems alongside operational forces using current countermine systems. Extensive operational user [United States Atlantic Command (USACOM)] involvement supports the development and evaluation of doctrine, tactics, techniques, procedures, and the assessment of organizational impacts of the new technology prototypes.
