Unlike combat, operations other than war emphasize nonlethal response, and they require a different set of tools—such as these antipersonnel rigid foams, rubber pellets, rubber-bodied distraction grenades, and anti equipment "caltrops" to stop wheeled vehicles.
Three moose hunters had traveled by float-plane into a remote wilderness. When the pilot returned to the lake to pick them up a week later, he was mildly surprised to find that each hunter had bagged a moose. He was even more surprised to learn that each hunter intended to take home not only the dressed-out animal but the head and antler trophy as well. The pilot told the hunters that the small plane could not possibly carry everything—the massive heads and antlers would have to be left behind. The hunters protested loudly, "We did it like this last year; all we have to do is load one moose inside with the gear, and balance a moose on each pontoon." After much discussion, the pilot relented and the hunters began to load the aircraft.
