During June 1992, the Navy exercised its option to order the third Pathfinder (T-AGS-60)-class survey ship from Trinity Industries’ subsidiary, Halter Marine, Inc., at Moss Point, Mississippi. The first two, the Pathfinder and the Sumner (T-AGS-61), "ere ordered on 30 January 1991 and are due for delivery 1° the Military Sealift Command in 1994. The trio are to cost $145 million and
are intended to perform a wide variety of oceanographic and survey operations in coastal and deep- ocean areas. At approximately 4,700 tons full load, they will be 328.5 feet long. Each of the first two ships was named for earlier survey ships that served with u, distinction during World
- War II.

After making the final payment on the Royal Navy’s last “broad-beamed beander,” HMS Ariadne, on 9 April, Chile added the ship to its existing trio of Leander- rlass frigates. On 3 June, the Ariadne became the General Ranquedano (PF-09). The ship had carried the last twin 4.5-inch Mk-6 gun- fount in Royal Navy service. AVith her sale and the decom- oiissioning of her half-sisters, the Jupiter in April and the Hermione in June, only five Meanders are left out of 26 built by the British between 1964 and 1973.
1 be second Arleigh Burke (DDG-51)-class guided- f issile destroyer Barry (DDG-52) puts to sea here on her initial sea trials from 29 Iune to 1 July 1992. The sb<p is due to be commissioned late this year. The Barry is unusual in having officially borne two different tames, twice, before her keel "as even laid; originally tamed the John Barry by then-Secretary of the Navy John Lehman, her name was altered to plain Barry under h's successor, James Webb. ’Tebb's successor, Will Ball, restored the full name and
then changed his position, opting instead to honor the previous destroyers that had carried the name of the Revolutionary War naval hero: DD-2, DD-248 (later APD-29), and DD-933, the latter still serving at the Washington Navy Yard as a ceremonial ship and museum exhibit.
