When the Gold Crew of USS Sam Houston, (SSBN-609), flies to Holy Loch this fall to take the ship out on her second (but their first) cruise, they will take along only the uniforms needed in transit plus an overcoat to wear on their return, as it will then be winter. They will live aboard USS Proteus (AS-19) during the few days of Blue-Gold overlap, and then relieve the Blue Crew. As soon as Sam Houston reaches deep water they will submerge her and proceed to station; they will not break the surface again for two months when the tour is over and they return to Holy Loch to relinquish the ship to the Blue Crew again.
