From January 4 to February 3
THE LONDON NAVAL CONFERENCE
Opening Session.—The London Naval Conference held its first session at 11:00 a.m., January 21, in the Royal Gallery of the House of Lords. King George V opened the conference with a brief address from the throne, at the end of the delegates’ table, which was followed by short speeches from the heads of each delegation. The remaining days of January were taken up chiefly with preliminary discussion of agenda and methods of procedure, and efforts to iron out by informal conferences some of the problems, such as that of the Mediterranean, affecting special groups of nations. Despite the millions of words which crossed the seas in press dispatches, little was accomplished that could be put in tangible form.
