Ed Offley was named the 2023 Naval History Author of the Year at the 151st Annual Meeting of the U.S. Naval Institute in Annapolis, Maryland, on 8 May.
Mr. Offley garnered the honors for his two features articles in 2023. “Fortunate Victory,” the October 2023 cover story, took a look behind the scenes at Operation Urgent Fury, the 1983 U.S. invasion of Grenada. June 2023’s “From Crisis to Victory in the North Atlantic” chronicled how major losses to U-boats in early 1943 sparked fears of German victory at sea—until the Allies mounted a stunning turnaround that drove off the wolf packs.
In addition, Mr. Offley contributed numerous digital-exclusive articles to Naval History online.
Meanwhile, U.S. Navy Captain Matt Wright was named Proceedings Author of the Year for an impressive body of work in 2023 that included three feature articles and a “Professional Notes” entry. And Brent Droste Sadler garnered the Naval Institute Press Author of the Year honors for his book U.S. Naval Power in the 21st Century: A New Strategy for Facing the Chinese and Russian Threat.
