Dr. Herwig is a professor of history and the Canada Research Chair in Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary. He is the author or coauthor of many books, including Luxury Fleet: The Imperial German Navy, 1888-1918 (Allen and Unwin, 1980); The Destruction of the Bismarck (Overlook, 2001); and The Marne 1914: The Opening of World War I and the Battle that Changed the World (Random House, 2009). He has just completed a book on Nazi Germany's assault on Caribbean oil.
