Mr. Shafter is a professional newspaper and magazine writer, contributing editor to Our Navy, and author of the book, Destroyers in Action. Born and educated in Germany, he has been an American newsman for the past 30 years. Since January, 1949, he has been with the publicity department of CARE (Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe, Inc.) as special assignments writer and in charge of foreign languages press releases.
