There is rapidly mounting evidence that no country, certainly no government, is making the kind of determined effort that has resulted in elevating the Soviet Union among the leaders of international fishing.
This facet of Soviet seapower is keyed to a remarkably well-developed capability to sustain major fishing operations over all the world’s oceans—a capability naval observers may recognize to have portended the increasing, worldwide scope of Soviet naval operations.
A measure of the significant growth and modernization of Russian fishing activity is presented on the following pages, where are depicted some of the vessels and equipment and operations methods—many of the photographs previously unpublished in this country—that have contributed to Russia’s steady advance in the world fishing industry. Equally apparent in this aspect of Soviet seapower is the hard truth that, for them, the Age of Aquarius has, indeed, already begun.
