C. Douglas Kroll, a U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduate and Coast Guard officer with a PhD in history, teaches at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA. He is the author of Commodore Ellsworth P. Bertholf: First Commandant of the Coast Guard.
