In the U.S. Navy, the Operations Officer occupies an incredibly challenging and rewarding position that requires dynamic leadership and management skills. Operations Officer’s Guide is a practical guide to learning this vital role aboard a U.S. Navy warship. This book is designed as an introduction for officers detailed to the operations officer billet, whether assigned to patrol coastal ships or to major commands. This book is also a useful reference for all operations department personnel, from those trying to figure out the complex organization where they work to those senior enlisted leaders broadening their knowledge of the department and the ship. Beyond being a guide to the practical mechanics of operations duties, the book discusses leadership opportunities and management techniques applicable to the Operations Officers in our diverse and sophisticated fleet.
