Over the years no GI Bill has captured the breadth of the 1944 incarnation. The latest one is in the ballpark.
On 30 June 2008 President George W. Bush signed the Post-9/11 GI Bill into law. When the new bill goes into effect on 1 August 2009, it will provide enhanced education benefits for all service members who have served on active duty for 90 or more days since 9/11. The benefits will be tiered, based on the number of days served on active duty, creating a benefit package that gives current and previously activated National Guard and Reserve members the same benefits as active-duty service members.
