At its recent VIP reception, the Foundation introduced Rosa McDonald of Montchanin, Delaware, as the newest member of The Arleigh Burke Society and inducted Foundation director John Fullmer of Rancho Sante Fe, California, into The Publisher’s Circle. The Foundation also unveiled its newest recognition group, The 1873 Society (honoring donors of at least $5,000 within a calendar year), and thanked its current Leadership Club members.

Advancing the Naval Institute Press
For well over a century, book publishing has been critical to the Institute’s success and a worthy extension of its educational mission. To bolster the Naval Institute Press’s ability to attract high-quality book projects, the Foundation now seeks gifts to build a fund that will be used exclusively to provide enhanced author advances.
Authors and literary agents customarily receive advances against future royalties on book sales. When the advance pool is in hand, funds will be “borrowed” to pay an author up front, and returned to the pool once income from book sales is realized. Used judiciously, increased advances will raise the Naval Institute Press’s profile by attracting bigger-name authors and projects.
The Institute’s financial stability relies upon a healthy, thriving press; the Institute believes this new book-acquisition initiative can help. You can participate by sending your tax-deductible gift by check, Visa, or MasterCard—specifying it is for the Author Advance Fund—to the Naval Institute Foundation, 291 Wood Road, Annapolis, MD 21402, or by making a gift online at the Institute’s Web site, www.usni.org [9] .
