And his many screen roles include Sergeant "Fatso" Judson in From Here to Eternity (1953), General Worden in The Dirty Dozen (1967), and Dutch Engstrom in The Wild Bunch (1969). But he is perhaps best remembered as Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale, the title character in television's madcap sitcom, "McHale's Navy" (1962-66). The congenial "real McHale" talked recently about his decade in the U.S. Navy and his film work with Naval History Editor Fred L. Schultz.
