The Taylor family is a major philanthropic force in the St. Louis area and beyond. Jack Taylor's business philosophy, "Take care of your customers and employees first, and profits will follow," has paid off in a big way. Today, Enterprise is the largest rental car agency in North America. It has 818,000 vehicles at 6,500 locations worldwide, and employs 61,000. In 2002, J. D. Powers and Associates ranked the company highest in customer satisfaction among airport renters. In 1999, Fortune magazine named Enterprise one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For." Jack Taylor, along with his son Andy, who succeeded him as Chairman and CEO, were named Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year in 1997. Andrew Taylor is also a Naval Institute member and among our Leadership Club 2005 supporters.

Commandant Salutes Essay Contest Winners
The winners of the Marine Corps Essay Contest, whose work was published in the November issue of Proceedings, were honored at the Pentagon in early December for their literary efforts. The contest is sponsored by Proceedings with awards funded by the generous financial support of the Raytheon Company. The contest each year draws topical and thoughtful essays from a broad range of active duty and reserve Marines.
Marine Corps Commandant General Michael W. Hagee congratulated two of the three winners who were able to be present. Winners attending were Major Mike Jernigan, Second Place, and Colonel Charles A. Jones, USMCR, Third Place. First Place winner Major Craig R. Wonson, currently with 1MEF in California, was unable to attend. Representing Raytheon's commitment to these literary and professional efforts was Tim Carey, vice president of Integrated Air Defense at Raytheon.
The generous financial support of many corporations helps the Naval Institute and Proceedings to conduct and administer numerous essay contests. This generosity also funds the contest award prizes and further encourages these important journalistic works.
