Naval Institute Foundation

The Tawani Foundation of Chicago has extended its partnership with the Naval Institute, pledging to help underwrite the general operating expenses of the oral history program for the next three years.

This support comes through the generosity of James N. Pritzker, renowned philanthropist, CEO of Tawani Enterprises, and retired colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard, and the efforts of Ed Tracy, executive director of the Tawani Foundation. Jim is the force behind the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago, a private research facility that supports the study of military history and is dedicated to the philosophy that all citizens should be knowledgeable about the military and its role in society.

Buell Oral History is Now Available

Support from several admirers has allowed the Naval Institute to complete the late Commander Thomas B. Buell's oral history.   Author and historian Buell is best known as the definitive biographer of Admirals Raymond A. Spruance and Ernest J. King. Our thanks to the Tawani Foundation for its ongoing support of the Institute's oral history program, and to the following individuals for their outstanding generosity toward this project:

Welcome Matt!

We are delighted to announce the addition of Matthew F. Schatzle to the Naval Institute Foundation team as Director of Development.

Matt brings a wealth of fundraising and Navy experience. The Naval Academy graduate served as navigator of the destroyer Preble (DDG-46) in the mid-1980s and as turret officer in the battleship Wisconsin (BB-64) in the late 1980s. Matt has held top development positions at several successful nonprofits, including the USO, the Ocean Conservancy, and the Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation.
