The U.S. Navy has been enjoying a time of plenty when it comes to recruiting. The coffers are full of well-qualified applicants. All of the services have been able to raise their minimum allowable Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) scores and improve their pool of incoming recruits. However, the Navy is not recruiting the best possible applicants. I have been out of the Navy for about three years but have been in contact with local recruiters. More important, I have daily contact with your future sailors. I teach high school science, and more than a few of my students have gone on to the military.
