‘Sanity is a madness put to good use.’
—George Santayana (1863–1952)
With one of their F4U-1 Corsair fighters in the background, members of VMF-114 “Death Dealers” of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing engage in a bit of their own March Madness. The court had been erected on an airfield taxiway in the Palau Islands group the previous day, the first of its kind on the island. The squadron later became known for its pinpoint accuracy in close-air support of their fellow Marines during the Battle of Peleliu from September to November 1944.
