The Navy can’t rely solely on computer-based training. A remedial course: Integrate new technologies with traditional teaching.
A decade ago, visionary leaders in the U.S. Navy assessed the state of training and readiness in the Fleet and decided that improvements could be made throughout the training continuum, from newly accessed sailors through seasoned officers at the height of their professional competence. Key to this renewed sense of interest in training was the perception that many Navy schools had not kept pace with educational advances, that sailors were spending excessive (and expensive) amounts of time in training pipelines, and that technology would hasten a new era in independent, technology-driven learning.
