Captain Roger Gonzalez Diaz—Nicaraguan Naval Forces
The naval forces of the Nicaraguan army will in 2010 celebrate the 30th anniversary of our constitution.
The global economic crisis obviously presents difficulties for and affects all budgeted agencies. In our case, the Nicaraguan Naval Forces assume a concept, adapt to realities, and in cooperation with other forces and government and non-government entities, add capabilities and merge wills, which largely allow achievement of the goals and missions that by law is our responsibility.
In recent years that course of action-interagency cooperation-has yielded highly satisfactory results. It is a reflection on us as the naval force, which with the smallest budget in Central America has achieved the greatest results in confronting organized crime, drug trafficking, and related transnational crimes.
We have limitations. We require better training and an increase in our forces. But in turn, we are conscious of the global economic crisis and our own national reality. The only path to travel is through interoperability in missions, inter-agency cooperation, and a closer working relationship with our citizenry. Each in its own way contributes to meeting our needs.
We reiterate that the navy of the Nicaraguan Army, structured and appropriate to the economic realities of our country in these times of crisis, has been able to maintain and meet operational and strategic goals throughout its jurisdictional area.
Our actions will continue to address achievment of effective force growth combined with the means and the strengthening of patrol plans to combat emerging threats against the stability of the Central American region.
