Reintroducing Our Donor Societies
The Naval Institute has taken a fresh look at the way it recognizes major benefactors through its annual and lifetime donor societies. In the coming months we will introduce each group, starting this month with The Joshua James Lifeboat Crew, and acknowledge the individuals who have achieved this status through their generous support.
The Joshua James Lifeboat Crew
(USNI Commodore — Lifetime Gifts Totaling $25,000-$49,999)
Captain Joshua James (1826-1902) is widely regarded as our nation's most prolific lifesaver. During six decades spent patrolling the shores for both the Massachusetts Humane Society and as keeper of the U.S. Life-Saving Service's Point Allerton Station at Hull, Massachusetts, he is credited with more than 600 rescues—his first, at age 15. More than a century after his death, he is still honored at his gravesite as Joshua James Day is observed annually on 23 May.
The Naval Institute is proud to thank the following for their generous support that distinguishes them among The Joshua James Lifeboat Crew:Stephen T. Braunheim
