Every Towed Array Sonar We Deliver Comes With 900 People Attached.
No other company has made a bigger investment in developing towed array technology than Martin Marietta.
This investment can be seen in our engineering and production facilities — the largest in the world for towed arrays.
It can be seen in our field offices in Hawaii, San Diego, New London, Norfolk and Charleston. Where we support the fleet both on and off the shore.
And it can be seen in our people. Over 900 individuals who know all there is to know about towed array sonars.
This knowledge is the result of 30 years’ experience. We’ve designed and developed the TB-16, SLR-24 and SQR-19 arrays. Right now we’re working on the TB-29, the most advanced array ever. And we’re developing technologies for multi-line arrays and active receivers.
With submarines getting quieter and the threats they pose becoming more unknown, Martin Marietta stands ready with the resources and commitment to meet the challenges of the next century.
To us, mission success is the only bottom line.

A SOMEWHAT ABBREVIATED HISTORY OF MILITARY AVIATION.
In a span of more than 75 years, we’ve given flight to some of America’s most innovative aircraft programs. Programs that our military has relied on to gain and maintain air superiority.
We built one of America’s first military planes for the Navy, the NY-1. Later we introduced the first intercontinental bomber. And we followed that with more innovations, like the first supersonic bomber and the first revolutionary swingwing fighter/bomber.
Today, we’re part of the three-aircraft company team producing the most advanced fighter in the world, the F-22. And we’re developing new technologies for the future production of what the Navy calls “the most survivable and capable attack aircraft in aviation history- We’re General Dynamics. The most experienced defense contractor in military aviation history.

PURSUIT OF THE SEAWOLF
A Novel
by VADM William P. Mack, USN (Ret.)
Drawing on his own battle experience on destroyers, Mack’s novel accurately reflects both the tactical aspects of sea battle and the powerful ties that develop among shipmates during war. A well developed central character, the ship’s Executive Officer, and a host of supporting characters effectively transport the readers back to a crucial battle that Mack describes in fascinating detail. Historically and technically accurate, it has special appeal to naval enthusiasts and fans of sea fiction.

During Operation Desert Storm, 17 U.S. Navy LCACs delivered enough combat equipment ashore to support 20,000 U.S. Marines while amphibious forces pinned down several Iraqi army divisions. In one 24 hour period, the LCACs made 55 runs without incident despite heavy seas and prevailing 40- knot winds. Under combat conditions, the Navy/Marine Corps amphibious warfare team proved the over-the-horizon doctrine effective and demonstrated LCAC capabilities to project power ashore when and where needed.
On the way home from Desert Storm, LCACs were again put to the test, this time providing humanitarian assistance after a cyclone struck Bangladesh.
United States’ sailors, Marines and soldiers used small boats, LCACs and helicopters to ferry food, clothing, fresh water, medical supplies and shelters to 1.8 million survivors. Fully loaded LCACs storming ashore gave the aril phibbus operation its name - Sea Ang^ From Desert Storm to Sea Ange1 LCACs have proven effective in w^r and peace as these versatile, high' speed craft continue to perform beyond expectations.

CAE's Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) controls the latest generation of advanced technology warships. Now operational in Canadian Patrol Frigate sea trials, CAE's IPMS has also been delivered to the U.S. Navy MHC-51 program and is on order by other navies.
CAE's IPMS uses the concept of an "All Glass Control Room" which provides marine engineers with full color display consoles to control and monitor all platform machinery systems. Standardized operating procedures enhance flexibility and reduce operator error.
SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE AND TOTAL SHIP SURVIVABILITY
IPMS modular design features widely distributed, intelligent electronics interconnected by a triplicated data bus to provide survivability through redundancy. Reductions in weight, space, cabling and power consumption are also achieved.
BUILT-IN-TEST AND EMBEDDED TRAINING The IPMS Built-In-Test-Equipment signals the operator with fault detection to the Line Replaceable Unit. The svstem provides "full-scope" embedded training which accelerates learning and reduces training costs.

It takes a world-class aircraft to train world-class pilots.
The Pampa 2000 will be the superior choice for honing future Navy and Air Force pilot trainees into "'orld-class pilots.
This contender for the JPATS program is as c°st-effective as it is mission-effective. It combines an affordable acquisition price with operating costs that are less than one-half the current primary trainer’s. Not only will the Pampa 2000 meet all of today’s requirements, it also has the growth poten- hal for the training needs of the next century.
The Pampa 2000 has a stepped-up tandem a°ckpit which gives the instructor-pilot superior 0rWard visibility from the rear seat. Maintenance is so straightforward that the engine can be changed by two people in under an hour. The plane can also be refueled in only 10 minutes so that it can fly more missions per day.
The Pampa 2000 is a team effort of LTV and Fabrica Militar de Aviones (FMA). Their combined 130 years of aviation experience makes the trainer an even more attractive choice.
Watch for this world-class aircraft as it continues its flight tours throughout the Americas and Europe.

I,
From Ranger, the first ship designed and built as a carrier, through the World War II flattops Yorktown, Essex, Intrepid, Hornet and Franklin to Forrestal, Enterprise and the mighty Nimitz class ships, Newport News Shipbuilding carriers have formed the basis of our Navy’s power at sea.
The evolution of technology
As ships, planes and weaponry become more sophisticated, so does our technology. Today we design ships on a computer, for modular construction, with provisions for life cycle management. As ships continue to evolve, so will the technology we develop to build them.

Mk 45: a versatile weapon for today’s defense.
Emerging missions for contingency and limited objective warfare demand weapons that are both accurate and flexible. As the main gun aboard major surface combatants of the US. Navy, the Mk 45 is relied upon for midrange anti-surface, strike, and fire support mis- slons. It provides our surface combatants the versatility and firepower to limit escalation of conflict, guard vital sea lanes, and protect U.S. interests on a global scale.
Ehe Mk 45 fires all types of 5-inch 54 ualiber ammunition. Rounds can be selected in any required sequence from a mixed magazine. It is the most c°nipact, lightweight 5-inch gun ever built, and is proven in modular, containerized applications. Mk 45 can be fitted aboard ships as small as 2000 tons.
Designed for any combat environment, the Mk 45 is Water-tight, and has de-icing and NBC protection. As proof °f system integrity, Mk 45 is the only gun larger than 30mm to have passed the U.S. Navy’s stringent barge shock test to Military Standard 901C.
Long proven aboard U.S. Navy cruisers, destroyers and amphibious assault ships, Mk 45 is fast becoming the naval gun of choice for many other fleets. Installations include Turkish YAVUZ class and scheduled Track II frigates, and new ‘construction ships for Greece, Australia, and New Zealand. In total, more than 150 systems have been delivered worldwide.
FMC is the source of Mk 45 design, production and operational support on a global basis. For more information, write FMC Corporation, Naval Systems Division, 4800 East River Road, Minneapolis MN 55421-1498, (612) 571-9201.
