Editors at Naval History , Proceedings , and the Naval Institute Press recently took a break from checking grammar to discuss our favorite World War II books and movies. During the subsequent free-flowing conversation, topics ranged from whether The Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far is Cornelius Ryan's best book, to Clint Eastwood's anachronistic late-'60s hairstyle in Where Eagles Dare . In compiling our favorites, we agreed to limit our selections to only military books and movies. What follows are our recommendations for great World War II reading and viewing:
