Largely unappreciated for their heroics at Normandy were the naval beach battalions (NBBs)—identified by red helmet markings. The 6th NBB's Radioman Fred Glover recovered the flag below from an infantry landing craft; beneath the flag was the leg of a D-Day casualty.
