2011 Cyber Threats to National Security

Sponsored by the Center for Security Policy, the U.S. Naval Institute, and CACI International Inc.

Keeping the Nation's Industrial Base Safe from Cyber Threats, the fifth in a series of symposia, will examine how America is protecting its industrial base, which is heavily dependent on information technology and distributed data to operate and coordinate actions. As cyber threats grow in sophistication and destructive power, how do we prevail against these challenges? The symposium will illuminate the problems faced by key decision makers – and offer potential solutions – as the nation responds to an ever-growing diversity of cyber attacks. Federal planning is a key step, but also needed are the resource commitments, training, simulations, and exercises that continually refine the actions of organizations from all parts of the economy and nation that are stakeholders in the industrial base.

    Themes include:

    • Do current processes, resources, actions, and authorities adequately protect the industrial base from the realities and consequences of cyber threats?
    • Has the government developed adequate legislation and policies to provide the nation with both strategic advantages and national security in the face of cyber threats?
    • Contemporary issues such as insider threats, WikiLeaks, Stuxnet, and more.

    Keynote Speakers:

    • Ambassador John R. Bolton, Former United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations
    • The Honorable James S. Gilmore, III, Former Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia
    • Frances Townsend, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Intelligence and National Security Alliance, and former Homeland Security Advisor to President George W. Bush
