The Mission of the Institute is to provide an independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and write in order to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to national defense.
Joshua Welle became a surface warfare officer after commissioning. When not at sea, he earned two master's degrees from the University of Maryland in politics and business administration. He was an instructor at the Naval Academy, teaching international relations, and was the special assistant to Adm. William Crowe, the 11th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A veteran of the Afghanistan War, Joshua served as an economic advisor to NATO, Regional Command South. He is the president of the Class of 2002 and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
