Dr. Douglas M. Johnston is president and founder of the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy. A (1960) distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he served ten years in the submarine service and was the youngest officer to qualify for command of a nuclear submarine. He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower) and director of policy planning and management in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He holds a master's in public administration and a doctorate in political science from Harvard University and is principal author and editor of Religion, the Missing Dimension of Statecraft (Oxford University Press, 1994).
