Commodore Cordner served more than 33 years in the Royal Australian Navy. He commanded HMAS Sydney during Operation Desert Storm and HMAS Adelaide as senior captain in the RAN Fleet. He is currently Principal Research Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), University of Wollongong, Australia.
